My Approach to Wedding Photography

What is Fine Art Wedding Photography?

Telling other people’s stories in the most beautiful way possible.

Choosing your wedding photographer is a big decision and not an easy one to make these days.

The photographer plays a really important role on your wedding day – they need to be respectful, adaptable, unobtrusive and you need to like them.  They also need to love weddings and want to immerse themselves in these remarkable, emotional, wonderful events with as much energy as you and your guests.  After all you are entrusting the photographer with the precious role of capturing memories on one of the most important days of your life.

I have photographed many incredible weddings, in the UK and abroad, in summer and winter and am delighted to be a preferred supplier at venues like Blenheim Palace, Ashridge House, Kensington Palace and The Bodleian Libraries.  My Wedding Galleries show a cross-section of the kind of weddings that I am lucky enough to photograph – with a whole gallery dedicated to weddings in Oxford. As well as the venues you can see  I have shot many of the top UK Wedding venues including Aynhoe Park, Hedsor House, Kew Gardens, Barnsley House, Leeds Castle and Stowe House and many of the luxury London hotels. However,  I also love photographing weddings at family homes – there is always something extra special about that.  As someone who loves to travel I have been lucky enough to shoot some amazing destination weddings – if you are looking for a destination wedding photographer then have a look at my Photography, Film and Air byLumiere website.

Brent and I recently got married in Dubrovnik, Croatia and it was really good for us to be involved in the planning of a wedding and to be the other side of the camera for a change.  The photos have really shown me what we give to our clients and how important it is to capture beautiful memories of life’s most emotional events.

I am often asked how I would describe my work and my response would be that of a fine art storyteller.  My main job is to document the emotion, the drama, the beauty and the love in a natural yet stylish way.  But I would also say that I don’t just take pictures but strive to make them.  Weddings are full of challenges for photographers but despite this I want to create truly stunning imagery for you at every opportunity that I can – so this does mean that I direct you – generally towards the most beautiful light I can find.

On Your Wedding Day

On the day itself I work quietly capturing the wedding as it unfolds. I take direction from you regarding the more formal portraits that you may want and ask to have some time alone with you both during the proceedings for some more intimate shots that celebrate the new ‘you’.  I photograph each wedding for the couple – your images should be an authentic reflection of you and your relationship and I will work hard to capture how you truly feel about each other and all your loved ones.  I think of it like holding up a mirror that shows you on the outside what you feel on the inside.  This may be a daunting thought to you but I know that I can create magic with you both if you trust me. I hope that you can see that I shoot each wedding individually from the cross section of weddings I have showcased in my wedding photography galleries – no two weddings are the same and every couple I meet is unique so your wedding photography will not look quite like anything you have seen on my website but will feel perfectly right when you see the finished images.

After The Wedding

Shooting your wedding day itself is just the beginning.  After the huge task of culling and curating the day I will hand edit every image that plays its part in your story.  I take great care in this post production stage to create a stunning and individual finish – so that your images look and feel a long way from the hundreds of extra images that you will be given by friends and family. I’m a great believer in the importance of photographic prints – whether for display in albums, books or frames.  I want you to love some of your wedding images so much that you will want to have some framed beautifully and hung for your lifetime and beyond.

Most of my couples find me through friends and word of mouth

However, if you have come across my work through other channels then take the time to read the testimonials section before getting in touch for an informal chat.  I only shoot 15 weddings a year because it is very important that I give you 110% of my energy and creativity on the day.  There are also many weddings that I can’t share because I value my clients’ privacy and I am grateful to have been trusted to capture the memories of much loved stars of the acting and music industry.
