One of the questions I get asked a lot is “should we do an engagement shoot”?
And I always say the same. They are not ‘necessary’ but they are a good idea and certainly give couples huge confidence being in front of the camera and you will love the results. The reality is that we have longer on a pre-wedding photo session to be creative then we do under the time pressures of your wedding day.
If you are keen to have some engagement photography then I think we should make a big effort to find a great location and really have fun with it. I love rural backdrops such as the beach as much as I do fabulous cityscapes. One of my favourite recent shoots was at Kew Gardens (despite it being in the middle of the heatwave!).
I also advise doing the shoot well in advance of the wedding so that you can enjoy the experience as something separate. The images will also have a very different feel to your wedding photography.
Of course you don’t have to be actually getting married to have this kind of session – at the end of the day it is just a couple portrait shoot! If you like the idea of a shoot then get in touch and we can chat through location and styling ideas.
